I am not an avid reader by any means but I do enjoy an occasional book. I also join a wonderful group of ladies every month or so for what we call a “book club.” Mainly they read books and I come for the wine 🍷. Actually, most of us really come for the wine. 😍
I am sharing a few of my favorites with you. I think if paired with a bottle of wine 😁 or a gift card, these would make great gifts as well! 🎁
Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her.
This was one of the first books we read as a book club and I really enjoyed it. I loved the faced paced feel and the mystery behind it. It was a page turner and I could put it down. I almost yelled out loud at some of the characters LOL. Those are the kind of books I generally gravitate to, so this was perfect for me. Kept me on the edge of my seat.
They had nothing in common until love gave them everything to lose . .
This is more of a romance novel and it required a lot of tissue. If you need a good cry, this is the book for you. I enjoyed the story very much and the fact that it made me so emotional means that it was well written to me. I felt what they were feeling and was drawn to the characters. I wasn’t crazy about the ending but overall I would recommend it. Definitely read the book before you watch the movie. But you won’t regret it either way!
Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever.
I did not think I would like this book at all and I ended up loving it. For someone that is not particularly religious, this book drew me in and made me fall in love! I have not seen the movie yet but the book was so inviting and so well written that it made a nonbeliever like me, believe. It is definitely a book that makes you wonder but it surprises you in every chapter. Easy to read but very compelling and eye opening.
Paula Hawkins – The Girl On The Train
Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.
This is one crazy book. It was so creepy yet good. It was literally like a train wreck you could not help but watch. It reminded me of social media. All of these people who get involved in other people’s lives via internet, yet they don’t even know them personally. But you don’t want this ending, that’s for sure. Although, I am sure things like this have happened before. YIIKES. Anyway, so many different points of view and trying to figure out who to trust is the fun part!
Richard Paul Evans – Lost December
“It has been said that sometimes the greatest hope in our lives is just a second chance to do what we should have done right in the first place. This is the story of my second chance.” —Prologue of Lost December
This is a feel good book. It is a book about life lessons. A relationship between father and son. A simple yet meaningful message behind it and that is why I loved it so much. I saved this one for my kids to read in high school. It will definitely put some choices we make into perspective. I loved it!
Liane Moriarty – Big Little Lies
Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.
Ok, so this one is a little different. I was not a fan of this book. I could not keep up with the characters and it was all over the place for me. But some of the other ladies, really loved this book. So it must have just been me. BUT I LOVED THE SHOW! I can not wait for season 2. It was so catchy and fun. Crazy but fun. 🙂
Peter Swanson – The Kind Worth Killing
On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start—he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit—a contrast that once inflamed their passion, but has now become a cliché.
This is the current book we are reading. I haven’t started it yet but I will updated you as soon as I do. Sounds perfect to me!
So….it seems as if I really enjoy books that are suspenseful and eventually made into a movie or a show 😉 oh well!
