As a child I always wanted to explore the world. My dad traveled with his brother for work and I always looked forward to his pictures and stories. But when pictures and stories were not enough, I always had books. I was curious about nature, earth, explorations and questioned everything. What, how, why?
But it wasn’t until I was in 7th grade that I learned about National Geographic and Kids Almanac. I was immediately drawn to them. Books like this inspired me to explore the world, seek adventures and answered a gazillion of my silly or not so silly questions.
Did you know that your entire inner ear can fit inside the tip of your pinkie?
Did you know that a light, fluffy cumulus cloud typically weighs about 216, 000 pounds?
If you ask me, National Geographic Kids Almanac should be in every home library. There is a reason why it is the most popular kids almanac on the planet. Some of the features in their annual 2019 almanac include 19 cutest animals, 19 amazing facts about Vikings, 7 extreme facts about earth and so much more. Things that spark curiosity or start debates. Fun facts are also available through their magazines, website, television series, apps, games and events. They are the only major kids brand with a world class scientific organization at its core.

But what I have to share with all of you today is their new powerful, smart and fact based fiction book: Explorer Academy: The Nebula Secret. This book is inspired by real life adventures of real National Geographic explorers. It touches on core subjects such as geography, history, STEM, exploration and world cultures. It features diverse kids and backgrounds from around the world.
Adventure, danger, and a thrilling global mission await 12-year-old Cruz Coronado at the Explorer Academy, where he and 23 other kids from around the globe will train to become the next generation of great explorers. But in addition to making new friends and attending cool classes, Cruz must also unlock clues to his family’s mysterious past and tackle the biggest question of all:
Who is out to get him … and why?
Adriana and I love it. We read about 2 chapters every night together and if it wasn’t for bedtime, we would not stop. She loves how easy it is to read, to relate to but also engage because it involves puzzles, code breaking, and a story line that encourages observation, reasoning and problem solving. This book is everything a child between the ages of 8 and 12 wants! We can’t wait to get the second book.
