Spring Break: Staycation Ideas Vol II

Spring break is just around the corner folks and if you are anything like me, you have zero plans.

Until today!

Check out my list of all things spring break in the Chicagoland area.

A little back story: We are yet to take a spring break vacation. YUP, you read that right.

We have never taken an actual VACATION during this time. It just isn’t a priority in our eyes. I am a stay at home mom and I don’t HAVE to take time off from work to be home with the kids. However, if I was working full time and had to take the week off, then maybe I would use that as a vacation week as well. But for now, I have the luxury of just playing it by ear.

I start by looking up events in and around our area. Then based on what I find, I schedule a few fun dates for the kids.

I literally take this break as a BREAK! A break from all things school related and an opportunity to soak up all the fresh spring air. A chance to recharge our bodies, minds and souls.

So without further adieu: here are several super fun, kid friendly events happening in Chicago and surrounding areas this spring!

City Day – Chicago, IL

A weekend improv class for kids ages 6-12!

Parents, bring your kids in and go to brunch for an hour and 15 minutes. The kids have a blast learning to play improv games and rehearsing a show. When you return, you can watch your children unleash their imaginations in a 10 minute original comedy performance!

Mention you have a kid in Brunch Camp and get a 25% discount at brunch at Maggiano’s (right across the parking lot!).

VOLO Auto Museum – Volo, IL

This is actually another attraction that we have not seen yet and plan on visiting during spring break.

KIDS CARNIVAL

During your visit to the Volo Auto Museum, you’ll see more than cars. You’ll discover thousands of Mechanical Marvels from the first motorcycle to a self-playing orchestra. Whether you’re taking a stroll down memory lane or experiencing these vintage artifacts for the first time, our 33 exhibits will leave you in awe.

1989 Batmobile

American Ninja Warrior Park – Warrenville, IL

Summerlakes Park

If you need to blow off some steam and your kids need a challenge, we highly recommend this obstacle course/ ninja warrior park. This park is filled with entertainment from baseball field, bike and walking path, skateboard area and more. It is hidden away and backs up to a forest preserve but it can be very hot on a summer day. SO take advantage this spring when the weather is pleasant.

KID FRIENDLY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Contact your local animal shelter and see if they have have any volunteer opportunities.  You can also host a lemonade stand and use the proceeds to purchase anything that the shelter may need.

One of our favorite ways of giving back is cooking for the homeless shelter or donating to the local food bank. Just search “local food bank or local homeless shelter” and look up what they need. Give them a call and help in any way you can. No donation or help is too small.

Last but not least, Feed My Starving Children. They are always looking for help and appreciate kids of all ages.
