Ahoy, matey!
Travel just outside of Chicago to Elk Grove Village and you will find a children’s hidden treasure park “Pirates’ Cove.” A small amusement park geared towards kids nine and under that is perfect for a morning of exploring and imagination. Kids can travel through an 18th century pirate ship, work their way up a 20 foot climbing wall, or hornswaggle their way through a labyrinthine castle and more.
I always forget about this park because it is truly a hidden gem. Tucked away in a corner lot – if you did not know it was there, you would definitely miss it. That is why I had to spread the word and remind people like myself, who almost forgot, that we have something super special in our area.
Pirates Cove is not too big. So don’t go in expecting hours and hours of fun. Truth be told, you can pretty much see and do everything in an hour. But on a less busy day or if you go on a super hot day like we did, you can easily spend 3, 4 hours having fun. We got there right as they opened and there were only a handful of families waiting to get in. The cost is $12 per child [non resident] and adults are always free. The day we went was a Happily Ever After event. A 30 minute fun, theater production with Prince and Princesses alike. Followed by a dance party, costume parade and photo ops! Super fun for everyone.

Because it was almost 100 degrees and not busy at all, the kids were able to go on every attraction several times. But I will say the misting station, helped a ton! It was so refreshing and exactly what we needed on that hot day.
They have plenty of picnic areas so bring your lunch or purchase snacks at the park and enjoy a few hours of fun with the kiddos. Happy Summer!
