Saving for a family vacation

Family vacations are what make all of your hard work worthwhile. A chance to relax and have fun with the people you love the most in the world. But making it happen can be difficult. Travel isn’t cheap. Especially when you have to pay for the entire family.

Here are some ways you can save money and quickly.

Cut down your spending

The obvious one: cut down your spending. Before even trying to earn more money, it’s worth seeing if you can free up some existing cash in your budget. Cut back on luxuries for a while. It doesn’t mean forever but even getting rid of Netflix, Spotify and Amazon Prime for a few months can save you a good chunk of money. Run your utility bills through price comparison sites and make swaps where needed. Give up the take out lunches/ dinners, coffee shop visits and start making your own food and drink instead. Not only will you save money but you’ll likely do your waistline a favor too! Any little extras that aren’t necessary will help you save. Soon enough, your vacation fund will start looking better and better.

Start a side hustle

Once you’ve cut back on any extra expenses, your next step is to earn more money. One way you can do this is by starting a side hustle. Things like blogging and YouTube can surprisingly be really lucrative but can take a long time to reach a point where you’re earning money. The same is true of starting your own business. If you want to start earning money right away, freelancing is a good option. Sign up to a freelancing site and take on the projects that suit you. Depending on your skills and experience, this could be anything from writing articles to designing logos.

Take on extra shifts at work

If you’re not able to take on a side hustle, another option would be to take on overtime or extra shifts at work. Otherwise an extra part time job somewhere local. Any money you earn from your additional job should go straight into your vacation fund and you’ll quickly see it grow.

Sell what you don’t need

Most of us own way too much stuff. Things we don’t need or use quickly become clutter. Declutter your home and make some cash at the same time. Start selling items you no longer have a use for by posting on Facebook marketplace, eBay or Poshmark.

Find good deals

Finally, when you are ready to book the trip you’ve been saving for, be sure to shop around. Find discounts and purchase tickets online. Look into cash back options and other kinds of deals that will save you money overall. Don’t just buy at the first price you see.

But don’t forget to also set a goal. Goals are key. How much money do you need, what do you need to do and how you will get there. Three key ingredients in this money saving recipe.

Hope you all get to go on at least one dream vacation in your lifetime.
